Start to Identify Sedges & Rushes
Wildflower Study 2019 36, 100 col photos. 148x115mm. PB. NEW. . Following the popularity of Start to Identify Grasses, this new book uses similar methods, using field characters rather than microscopes and complex keys, to show you how to identify the common sedges and rushes. The book is in ten sections, first distinguishing sedges and rushes from grasses and from each other, then picking out salient features to help identify some common rushes and non-Carex sedges. The largest section covers 21 of the most common Carex sedges, using both a Ready Reference Table and a Flowchart, to pin down each identification.. [9780993493331]

Grasses, Sedges, Rushes: An Identification Guide
Yale University Press 2020 256, 147 col photos, 416 b/w illus. . PB. NEW. . A guide to the grasses, sedges and rushes of the north-eastern United States. This elegant and easy-to-use guide is an updated and amended revision of Lauren Brown's seminal Grasses: An Identification Guide, which was first published in 1979. While maintaining the spirit and goals of the original edition-a portable, straightforward, and user-friendly guide for naturalists and plant enthusiasts-the new edition features over one hundred grasses, sedges, and rushes found in the northeast of the USA, presented with line drawings and colour photographs, concise descriptions, and details on the uses of various plants throughout history. In addition, the authors are careful to highlight the subtle differences in similar species to avoid confusion, as well as offering relevant notes on plant survival strategies, invasiveness, and how different plants fit within the broader ecological landscape. Devoid of technical jargon, this volume is an indispensable tool for those curious about the often-overlooked grasses, sedges and rushes that surround us.. [9780300236774]

Identification Guide to Southern African Grasses: An Identification Manual with Keys, Descriptions and Distributions
SANBI Publishing 2016 798, 581 b/w photos, line drawings, maps. . HB. NEW. . Grasses are very important features of the landscape and occur to a greater or lesser extent in all of the vegetation types of southern African. The importance of good grazing grasses for both wild and domesticated animals is well known. Some species are indicators of good or bad veld management and are useful to farmers and conservators. Crop farmers have to deal with undesirable grasses in their fields and the custodians of our indigenous vegetation need to correctly identify any alien invaders. This identification guide relies primarily on the use of keys and descriptive information to aid the user in identifying a grass species. It contains some of the best information needed to identify southern African grasses. Keys to grass genera and species are provided, and in some instances also keys to easily confused taxa. For each species, a combination of useful characters is provided, and where applicable, line drawings of the spikelet or parts thereof accompany the identification keys. Species descriptions and distribution maps are hugely important and add to the identification of grasses.. [9781928224006]
